112 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957. There are three parking lots in the area with about 170 parking spots available. You can not go inside the lighthouse.

The lighthouse is part of Lighthouse Beach Park. The park has picnic tables, grills, restrooms, outdoor showers, bike racks, and green space for lounging.

Another nearby attraction is the Lighthouse Cafe. It serves breakfast all day. If you order food, remember to order it “Lighthouse style,” and it will come with a croissant.

What Are Some Things To Know About The Sanibel Lighthouse?

Here are some interesting facts about the Sanibel Lighthouse to know before you visit it.

  • The Sanibel Lighthouse was constructed in 1884. 
  • At the time, not many lighthouses existed along the Gulf Coast, making this one of the first. 
  • The final lighthouse keeper took over duties in the tower in 1946. The lighthouse had eight keepers, the last of whom retired in 1949.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard gave the lighthouse to the city of Sanibel in 2013. 
  • The lighthouse is also known as Point Ybel Light.
  • The light sits 98 feet above sea level
  • Hurricane Ian damaged the tower and destroyed the keeper’s houses and all of the surrounding buildings. However, the lighthouse was relit five months later, early in the morning.
  • The lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
